Street photography by Matilde Damele

I moved to New York in 1999 after a degree in English literature from the University of Bologna, with the desire to become a photographer. The fast pace of the city and its mix of cultures was an inexhaustible source of inspiration and I got easily drawn to photograph it daily. I followed a documentary photography workshop at the International Center of Photography and I had the opportunity to meet photographers who both inspired and encouraged me to continue taking photographs.

While taking photos on the street, I also developed a series of boxing photographs taken at local boxing matches and at Gleason's Gym and in 2005 I self published a book on blurb titled Soul Boxing

I participated at several group shows in the city and one solo show at the Empire State Building.

In 2015 I moved to London where I studied for a master degree in photography at Central Saint Martins University.

I am currently living in London where I continue to develop my projects.

Through my photographs I express a vision of reality where each photogram is partly a reflection of my thoughts and feelings, while it is also witness of a time and place.
